Memories can be stored in different ways using every single one of your senses. With Visual sense – your eyes, memories are attached with photos; Whenever you look at the photos you took on a trip, you’ll remember the moments immediately.

While Gustatory (Taste) – your tongue works with spices, foods and drinks are great ways to surprisingly evocate memories. 

However,…

Olfactory – your nose works differently, it brings up memories in an abstract way. Especially when you smell a familiar scent that has great reminiscence, your nose will send a signal to your brain and after all, it slowly recalls a memory related to the scent. 

Scents in Vietnam are countless, they come from every corner, every aspect in life. Including traditional culture, fantastic cuisine, breathtaking landscape or even from the bustling streets where you visit. Imagine having a perfume bottle that captures your Vietnamese memories wherever you go.

We have welcomed many foreign tourists in our DIY perfume workshop who wanted to create their own scents that contain a touch of Vietnam in their bottle. Let’s have a look at our customer’s interesting stories behind every of their perfume.

1. Dung Le – “Little Vietnam�?/span>

"This makes me feel like I can breathe in the Vietnamese air every time using it"

Dung Le’s story

Dung Le took part in NOTE’s workshop with the intention of creating a real Vietnamese scent. Being far apart from Vietnam – where she was born for a long time, she decided to combine every note that reminded her of this beautiful country. That’s why she named it “Little Vietnam�?

 

Dung Le’s DIY perfume formula

With the hit of Sen (Lotus) – one main note in her perfume that brings up the Vietnamese spirit, since Lotus is considered as an iconic flower of Vietnam. Sen gave her perfume a soft touch, a light sweetness and an elegant vibe. 

Combining with Apricot, Ocean and Bergamot – adding more fresh and fruity scents for a comfortable smelling. Afterall, White Musk jumped in as a base layer – giving a skin-scent and gentle touch which can last for hours. 

Sen and these fruity, fresh notes are what brings up the Vietnamese vibe. We’re glad that this perfume formula successfully delivered her beloved country’s atmosphere – which she can carry beside wherever she goes. 

2. Fred Grimm – “OLD MAN SUPER POTION�?/p>

 

Fred’s story

This is one of the most memorable stories that we have ever had with our customer. It has been for decades since he was part of the military service in Vietnam’s wartime; Unfortunately, the Agent Orange has negatively affected his vision and hearing ability. 

However, it has nothing to do with him and his wife’s love for Vietnam since they take part in DOVE fund – a charity organization for Vietnamese children. This time when he came back to Vietnam and joined the NOTE perfume workshop, he would love to create a perfume that showcases this country’s spirit. 

During the whole time, Fred completely trusted our instructor’s recommendations to create his “super potion�?after all!

 

Fred’s DIY perfume formula

It seems like Sen (Lotus) is completely loved by tourists when it represents not only Vietnamese culture but also gives a gentle touch to the whole perfume mixture. 

In Fred’s perfume, Sen is mixed with Honeysuckle as 2 main ingredients. This combination smells slightly similar to Jasmine with the hit of tea – that’s why it brings a Vietnamese traditional vibe. 

At the same time, we have Leather and Cedarwood as a base layer which offer a clean, woody scent to ease everything down. The woody layer is mixed with a deep sweetness of Honey – giving a vibe of “the old man�?– mysterious, manly, old sweat. One special ingredient that he put in was Chypre – a mixture of Patchouli, Bergamot, Oakmoss, giving a cozy and warm feeling.  

3. Vanessa Sanchez – “VIETNAM25❤️”

 

Vanessa’s story

Vanessa wanted to create a “so me�?perfume which can clearly showcase her own self. Vanessa named her perfume at NOTE as “VIETNAM25❤️�?– a souvenir that reminds her of every single moment in this Vietnamese trip.

Vanessa preferred strong scents such as Cinnamon and Wet Amber, giving a unique touch of spice intertwined with sweetness and oceanic vibe. 

These 2 scents are ideally combined with other fresh notes: Pink Peppercorn – a perfect note to add when the mixture is deeply strong, Green note – a slight air in top note which plays an important role to balance everything else.

In this guide, we’ll explore expert-backed techniques to keep your customized perfume fresh, vibrant, and as captivating as the day you created it.

Why Your Customized Perfume Needs a Chilling Period

Freshly blended customized perfumes need time to mature before revealing their true scent. After creation, your perfume should be chilled for about 15 to 30 days. This allows the individual fragrance notes to fully bond with the alcohol and stabilize, enhancing the depth and longevity of the scent. While you can use your customized perfume right away, it’s best to chill it first.

Without this maturation process, the fragrance of your customized perfume may have a slightly noticeable alcohol smell before fully developing into the intended scent, as some notes might not have fully blended yet. To ensure the best olfactory experience, store your perfume in a cool, dark place �?such as a refrigerator or a temperature-controlled environment—during this period before using it regularly.

Keep it away from direct sunlight

 

UV rays can break down the fragrance molecules, causing the scent to change or fade over time. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can also accelerate oxidation, leading to a weaker or altered fragrance profile. To prevent this, store your perfume in a dark place, such as a dresser drawer, a closet shelf, or even its original packaging. If you like to keep your perfume on display, choose a shaded area away from windows and artificial heat sources.

Avoid heat and humidity

 

High temperatures can cause the ingredients to degrade, altering the scent composition and reducing its longevity. Perfume is best stored in a cool, dry environment where temperature fluctuations are minimal. Bathrooms are not ideal because steam and humidity from showers can break down the fragrance over time. Instead, consider keeping your customized perfume in a bedroom drawer or a dedicated storage box away from radiators, heating vents, or direct sunlight.

Minimize air exposure

 

Oxygen can slowly alter the perfume’s scent, leading to oxidation and a potential shift in the fragrance balance. Over time, this can dull the top notes, making the scent smell flatter or even slightly off. Always ensure the bottle is tightly closed when not in use, and avoid leaving it uncapped for extended periods.

How to Make Your Customized Perfume Last Longer On Your Skin

Many people unknowingly shorten the life of their customized perfume with simple mistakes. Here’s what to avoid:

Leaving the bottle uncapped

Even a few minutes of air exposure can speed up oxidation. Oxygen reacts with the fragrance molecules, causing them to degrade and altering the scent profile. Over time, this can result in a weaker, less vibrant fragrance that no longer smells as intended. 

Overapplying

Our nose may get used to your customized perfume over time, but that doesn’t mean others can’t smell it. A little goes a long way! Overapplying can lead to scent fatigue, where you no longer notice your fragrance, but it remains a little too strong to those around you.

Shaking the bottle vigorously

Unlike some cosmetic products, perfume does not need to be shaken before use. Shaking can introduce air bubbles, leading to faster oxidation and potential degradation of the fragrance composition.

Sau vô s�?th�?nghiệm, chúng tôi đã quyết định kết hợp ba nguyên liệu đặc biệt: Đại Hoàng (Rhubarb) với hương thơm xanh mát, hơi chua nh�?như buổi sớm tinh mơ; Cam Hương (Citrus) mang đến s�?rạng r�? tươi sáng như tia nắng đầu ngày xuyên qua k�?lá; và Qu�?Lý Chua đen (Blackcurrant) tạo nên chiều sâu với hương thơm trái cây đặc trưng, hơi chua và tràn đầy sức sống.

Sau hàng trăm lần th�?nghiệm, chúng tôi đã mạnh dạn kết hợp bốn yếu t�?tưởng chừng khác biệt: Hoa Nhài (Jasmine) – n�?hoàng của các loài hoa với v�?đẹp quyến rũ, ngọt ngào nhưng đầy sức sống; Diên Vĩ (Iris) với nét thanh lịch, sang trọng và hương thơm phấn hoa tinh t�?như một bức tranh thủy mặc; Đào (Peach) mang đến s�?mềm mại, ngọt ngào như làn da thiếu n�? và Amber với chiều sâu ấm áp, gợi cảm và bí ẩn như ánh hoàng hôn.

Symbolizing purity and enlightenment, Lotus, for decades, has been representing the honorable qualities of Vietnamese people; innocence and integrity. Hence, the fragrance of lotus is light and sweet as so, giving a sense of refreshing like new beginnings and peace of mind.
